An air filter is a device that purifies air. If dust, sand particles, and various impurities in the air directly enter the engine cylinder for combustion, they will accelerate engine wear, reduce engine service life, and even cause serious damage to the engine.
Air filters are divided into dry air filters and wet air filters, among which dry air filters are the most commonly used on sedan models, and the filter material is filter paper or non-woven fabric. In order to increase the air passage area, most filter elements are processed into many small wrinkles. When the filter is slightly damaged, compressed air can be used to blow it clean. When the filter is severely damaged, a new core should be replaced in a timely manner. Generally speaking, there is no accurate replacement time for air filters, which is determined based on the environment in which the vehicle is used. However, the maximum replacement time does not exceed 1 year, and the driving distance of the vehicle does not exceed 15000 kilometers.
Problems that may occur when the air filter is replaced irregularly
If the filter is severely blocked, it will increase intake resistance and decrease engine power. At the same time, due to the increase in air resistance, the trip computer will also determine the amount of gasoline being sucked in, resulting in a rich mixture ratio, which can worsen the engine's operating state, increase fuel consumption, and easily generate carbon deposits.
The consequences of using inferior air filters
A qualified air filter can ensure the required intake volume for engine operation and filter out foreign objects in the air. Poor quality filter elements, made of poor quality materials, result in excessive or insufficient intake air volume, and even ineffective filtration. Foreign objects can easily enter the engine, causing severe wear and tear.
In addition, the service life of inferior air filters is also relatively low, and they are usually very dirty after several hundred kilometers of use. Moreover, inferior filters increase intake resistance, reduce engine power or increase fuel consumption, and are prone to carbon deposition.
