Reasons for low engine oil pressure
1. Insufficient oil level
If the oil level is insufficient, it will reduce the amount of oil pumped by the oil pump or prevent the pump from applying oil due to air ingress, resulting in a decrease in oil pressure. The crankshaft, bearings, cylinder liners, and pistons will all experience increased wear due to poor lubrication.
2. Engine temperature too high
If the engine cooling system has excessive scale, poor heat dissipation, prolonged overload operation, or the fuel supply time of the fuel injection pump is too late, it can cause the engine to overheat, accelerate the aging, deterioration, and thinning of the oil, leak from various fitting gaps, and reduce pressure.
3. Oil bypass valve malfunction
The oil bypass valve is designed to maintain normal oil pressure in the main oil passage. If the pressure regulating spring softens or is improperly adjusted, the mating surface between the valve seat and the steel ball is worn or jammed, and the valve is not tightly closed, the oil pressure will decrease.
4. Oil filter clogged
When the oil filter is blocked and cannot flow, the bypass valve located on its base is opened, and the oil directly enters the main oil passage without being filtered. If the opening pressure of the bypass valve is set too high, the oil filter cannot be opened in a timely manner when it is blocked, and the oil pump pressure will increase, internal leakage will increase, and the oil pressure will decrease.
Can I still turn on if the oil pressure is too low
When the oil pressure is too low or too high, the oil pressure indicator light on the dashboard of the car will light up. Regarding whether the oil pressure can be turned on even if it is too low, we can divide it into three situations:
First, if we see that the oil pressure indicator lights up after starting, we should not start it. The first thing is to check the oil dipstick to see if the oil level is normal, and fill the oil if necessary.
Secondly, if you notice that the engine oil warning light is on while driving, you can find a safe place to stop and check. Of course, it is only limited to checking the engine oil and fluid, and as for other faults, you can't cause any trouble. You can continue to drive to a nearby 4S store for maintenance, and be careful to slow down.
Thirdly, if the oil warning light on the dashboard of the vehicle lights up, the vehicle can drive normally, but symptoms such as shaking or weak acceleration may occur. Continuing to drive may exacerbate engine wear and may also threaten the safety of your and others' lives and property. Therefore, it is better to call a trailer.
