
The diesel filter market is characterized by a wide range of brands and significant price disparities. Poor quality aftermarket filters priced at tens of yuan have a very high similarity in appearance to genuine factory filters, but their internal materials, filtration accuracy, structural processes, and durability are vastly different. A large number of users blindly choose low-priced and inferior filter elements to reduce maintenance costs. There are no obvious symptoms of failure in the short term, and long-term use can cause irreversible and permanent damage to precision components of diesel engines. The maintenance cost in the later stage far exceeds the price difference of the filter element. Having a clear understanding of the hazards of inferior filter cartridges and mastering the skills of distinguishing between genuine and fake filter cartridges are essential skills for equipment maintenance.
The core defects of poor quality diesel filter cartridges are concentrated in three aspects: filter material, process, and sealing structure. Poor quality filter cartridges are often made of ordinary waste paper and low-density fiber materials, with uneven pore size and disordered density, which cannot meet the 3-5 micron fine filtration standard and cannot intercept fine impurities and emulsified water. At the same time, the filter material has few folding layers, a small filtering area, and extremely low pollutant holding capacity. It can be completely blocked after just a few thousand kilometers, causing poor oil supply in the oil circuit. In addition, inferior sealing rings are made of ordinary recycled rubber, which is not resistant to diesel corrosion and has poor high temperature resistance. They are prone to aging, cracking, and elastic failure, leading to oil leakage, intake, and pressure relief in the oil circuit, causing a series of oil circuit failures.
The hazards of long-term use of inferior filter cartridges are extremely destructive and highly concealed. Firstly, unfiltered fine hard impurities will directly enter the high-pressure oil pump and fuel injector, causing wear and tear on precision components, resulting in poor atomization of the fuel injector, oil droplet blockage, and stuck plunger of the oil pump, directly leading to engine power attenuation, weak acceleration, soaring fuel consumption, and black smoke emission from exhaust. Secondly, low-quality filter cartridges lack qualified oil-water separation function, making it difficult to effectively filter out moisture in diesel, which can corrode metal components in the oil circuit and cylinder walls, causing rust, wear, and carbon accumulation. In severe cases, it can cause complete blockage of the oil circuit, engine stalling during driving, engine failure to start, and even lead to the scrapping of the high-pressure oil pump and fuel injector assembly, resulting in thousands of yuan in maintenance losses.
Authentic and genuine filter cartridges can be quickly and accurately identified through six dimensions, with simple operation and high accuracy.
The first thing to look at is the appearance and craftsmanship. The genuine filter cartridge shell has a uniform paint surface, no burrs, clear and neat printing, and complete batch numbers; Poor quality filter cartridges have rough paint surfaces, are prone to paint peeling, have blurry fonts, and lack proper batch information.
The second factor is the quality of the filter material. Genuine filter paper is thick, uniform, strong in toughness, not easy to tear, and has no shedding phenomenon; Poor quality filter paper is thin, loose, easily damaged, and has serious powder loss.
Thirdly, look at the sealing accessories. Genuine sealing rings are soft, elastic, oil resistant, corrosion-resistant, and odorless; Poor quality sealing rings are stiff, dry, prone to cracking, and have a strong odor.
The fourth factor is weight. Genuine products are made of solid materials, have a dense structure, and meet weight standards; Poor quality filter cartridges cut corners and are generally lightweight.
The fifth factor to consider is anti-counterfeiting qualifications. Legitimate brands have exclusive anti-counterfeiting codes that can be verified on their official websites, while inferior filter cartridges lack anti-counterfeiting labels and have incomplete qualifications.
Sixth, check the accuracy of the interface. Genuine interface threads are regular and tightly fitted; Poor quality threads are rough and have large alignment deviations.
The diesel filter is the first protective barrier of the engine, not a cost saving consumable. Maintenance equipment should not be sacrificed for small gains. We must resolutely eliminate inferior filter elements and choose compliant and genuine accessories in order to avoid damage to precision components from the root, ensure long-term stable operation of the equipment, and significantly reduce long-term maintenance costs.
