Automatic transmission oil filter usually take the paper filter, felt filter or membrane filter to filter out the dirt in the oil. Asian car manufacturers like to use membrane filters, but European and American manufacturers are more inclined to paper, or felted filter.  

Automatic transmission oil filters are often forgotten when preventive maintenance is performed. In most cases, transmission oil filters are not as easy to replace as oil filters, air filters, or fuel filters.
