The air filter is installed in front of the carburetor or intake pipe to filter out the dust and sand particles in the air and ensure that sufficient clean air enters the cylinder. The air filter is a very inconspicuous part among thousands of automobile parts, because it has no direct relationship with the technical performance of the automobile, but in the actual use of the automobile, the air filter has a great impact on the service life of the automobile. On the one hand, if there is no filtering function of the air filter, the engine will inhale a large amount of air containing dust and particles, resulting in serious wear of the engine cylinder; On the other hand, if maintenance is not carried out for a long time during use, the filter element of the air filter will be covered with dust in the air, which will not only reduce the filtering capacity, but also hinder the air circulation, resulting in excessive mixture and abnormal engine operation. Therefore, it is very important to maintain the air filter on time. Most air filters have two forms: paper and oil bath. In recent years, paper filters have been widely used because of their advantages such as high filtration efficiency, light weight, low cost and convenient maintenance. The filter efficiency of paper filter element is above 99.5%, and that of oil bath filter is 95-96% under normal conditions. At present, paper filters are widely used in automobiles, which are divided into dry type and wet type. As for the dry filter element, once it is immersed in oil or water, the filter resistance will increase sharply, so do not touch water or oil during cleaning, or it must be replaced. When the engine is running, the intake air is intermittent, which will cause the air in the air cleaner housing to vibrate. If the air pressure fluctuates too much, it will sometimes affect the intake of the engine. In addition, the intake noise will also increase. In order to suppress the intake noise, the volume of the air filter housing can be increased, and some baffles can be set in it to reduce resonance.

The filter element of air filter is divided into dry filter element and wet filter element. The dry filter element is made of filter paper or non-woven fabric. In order to increase the air passing area, the filter element is mostly processed into many small wrinkles. When the filter element is slightly polluted, it can be purged with compressed air. When the filter element is seriously polluted, it should be replaced with a new one. The wet filter element is made of sponge like polyurethane materials. When it is installed, some engine oil should be dripped and kneaded evenly by hand to absorb foreign matters in the air. If the filter element is polluted, it can be cleaned with cleaning oil. If it is excessively polluted, it should also be replaced with a new filter element. If the filter element is severely blocked, the air inlet resistance will increase and the engine power will decrease. At the same time, the increase of air resistance will also increase the amount of gasoline inhaled, resulting in too rich mixture ratio, which will worsen the engine's running state, increase fuel consumption and easily produce carbon deposits. At ordinary times, you should develop the habit of checking the air filter element frequently.

Introduction to air filter cleaning:
1. Loosen the filter latch, remove the nut fixing the filter element, remove the cover and pull out the filter element. Take out the filter element and pay attention to prevent impurities from falling into the carburetor. Wipe the inside and outside of the air cleaner housing with a rag dipped in gasoline.
2. Starting from the inside of the filter element, blow the dust on the inner and outer surfaces of the filter element evenly up and down along the diagonal direction. If there is no compressed air, tap the filter element gently with the screwdriver handle, and then brush off the external dirt with a brush.
3. Check and clean the dried filter element. Turn on the lamp and place it inside the filter element to observe whether there is any damage, small hole or thinner part from the outside, and check whether the rubber gasket is damaged. In case of any abnormality, replace the filter element and gasket.
4. Replace the filter element of the air filter. Replace according to the regulations of each vehicle model. When replacing the filter element, pay attention to check whether the new filter element is damaged and whether the gasket is damaged. If any, it should be equipped.
