2025-05-31 View:

Air filter cleaning is an important part of car maintenance. It can ensure the normal operation of the engine and extend its service life. The following is detailed information about the cleaning of air filters, including cleaning methods, frequency and precautions:

Why is it necessary to clean the air filter?
The function of the air filter is to filter the air entering the engine, preventing impurities such as dust, sand particles and leaves from entering the cylinder and avoiding engine wear. If the air filter is too dirty, it will lead to:
Insufficient intake air volume: Engine power decreases and fuel consumption increases.
Engine wear intensifies: Impurities enter the cylinder, accelerating the wear of components such as the piston and cylinder wall.
Incomplete combustion: The quality of the mixed gas declines, leading to incomplete combustion and the formation of carbon deposits.
Emission deterioration: Polluting the environment.

II. Frequency of Air Filter Cleaning:
The cleaning frequency of the air filter depends on the vehicle's usage environment and mileage. Generally speaking:
Regular recommendation: Clean every 10,000 to 20,000 kilometers or once a year.
Dusty environment: If you frequently drive in an environment with a lot of dust, it is recommended to clean it every 5,000 kilometers or every six months.
Specific suggestions: Please refer to the suggestions in the vehicle maintenance manual.

III. Cleaning Methods for Air Filters:
Check the air filter:
Find the air filter: It is usually located in the engine compartment, close to the air intake.
Remove the filter element: Open the air filter housing and take out the filter element.
Observation: Check the degree of dirtiness of the filter element. If a large amount of dust and impurities accumulate on the filter element, it needs to be cleaned or replaced.
2. Cleaning method:
Gently tap: For slightly dirty filter elements, you can gently tap them to shake off the dust on the surface.
Compressed air blowing: Use compressed air to blow from the clean side (usually the inside) of the filter element towards the dirty side, blowing out the dust. Note: Do not blow from the dirty side, otherwise dust will be pushed deep into the filter element.
Vacuum cleaner suction: Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush head to gently remove the dust on the surface of the filter core.
Washing (for non-oil-immersed filter elements) : For some non-oil-immersed paper filter elements, if they are severely dirty, they can be rinsed with clean water, but make sure they are completely dry before installation. ** Note ** : This method is not applicable to oil-immersed filter elements.
Special cleaning agent (oil-immersed filter element) : For oil-immersed filter elements, it is necessary to clean them with a special air filter cleaner and re-soak them in engine oil.
3. Replacement:
If the filter element is too dirty to restore its filtration performance through cleaning, a new filter element needs to be replaced.
Suggestion: Generally, it is recommended to replace the filter element with a new one every 2 to 3 cleanings.

IV. Precautions:
Safety first: Before cleaning the air filter, make sure the engine has cooled down and disconnect the power supply.
Avoid damaging the filter element: Do not apply excessive force when cleaning to prevent damage to the filter element.
Correct installation: After cleaning or replacing the filter element, ensure that the air filter housing is correctly installed to prevent unfiltered air from directly entering the engine.
Use appropriate tools: When using compressed air, use the right nozzles and keep an appropriate distance to avoid damaging the filter element.
Select high-quality filter elements: When replacing filter elements, choose high-quality ones that meet the vehicle's requirements to ensure the filtration effect.
Refer to the maintenance manual: The position and cleaning method of the air filter may vary among different vehicle models. Please refer to the vehicle maintenance manual.

Regular cleaning of the air filter is an important measure to ensure the normal operation of the engine. Based on the vehicle's usage environment and mileage, choosing the appropriate cleaning frequency and method can extend the engine's service life and reduce maintenance costs. If you are not sure, it is recommended that you go to a professional auto repair shop for cleaning and replacement.
