The filter is the key to the normal operation of the oil system. If the operation of the filter can be analyzed correctly, early signs of diesel engine failure can be detected, so as to take timely measures to prevent the occurrence of faults or the expansion of accidents.
After the diesel engine of an internal combustion locomotive passes through a filter, the pressure will decrease to a certain extent, which is called the pressure difference. The normal pressure difference before and after the oil filter is 40-98kPa. Excessive or insufficient pressure is not normal. The cause must be identified before the locomotive can operate.
Analysis of common problems with oil filters
1. If the pressure difference is too large, it may be due to the dirty filter element or damage to the pressure gauge. The former requires observation of the pressure gauge at the inlet and outlet of the filter. When the pressure difference is too large, replace the filter element in a timely manner. If the pressure gauge is damaged, it needs to be calibrated and replaced.
After replacing the filter element, the pressure difference is still too large. Firstly, observe whether the double needle pressure gauge indicates the correct value. If there is any problem, remove it for calibration, maintenance, or replace the pressure gauge. If the pressure gauge reading is normal, check if the oil is too dirty. At the same time, check the abnormal wear of various moving parts of the diesel engine, replace the oil in a timely manner, and inspect the abnormal wear parts.
3. The pressure difference is too small. It may be due to a damaged filter element or incorrect readings on the dual needle pressure gauge. If any abnormalities are found, they should be repaired and replaced in a timely manner. A small oil flow rate can also cause a small pressure difference. It is necessary to observe the outlet pressure of the diesel engine oil and the pressure difference of the oil filter. If both are much lower than the normal value, it is necessary to immediately check the opening of the oil pump and safety valve.
4. Sudden decrease or disappearance of oil pressure difference. The filter element is severely damaged and needs to be immediately removed for inspection and replacement.
